fatal.
The_feelings_those_thoughts_generate: I feel that people
who smoke just don't care about the effect it will have not only

How_I_quit: When I was four months pregnant I woke up one
morning after being at a party (I didn't drink) where everyone,
including myelf had been smoking. I usually had a cigarette right
after breakfast, but the taste in my mouth and the smell of the
smoke that still lingered, wouldn't let me light up. I never
wanted another cigarete during the rest of my pregnancy. However,
three years later when my father was dying, I remember saying to
someone, "I wish that I smoked....I need a cigarette." But, I
didn't have one, and still haven't. It was hard when I first quit,
and the urge for a smoke lasted for a long time, but I didn't give
in, and 35 years later, I'm so glad that I didn't.

How_I_quit: In a difficult time of my life I was
befriended and supported by a family in my church that did not
smoke. When I was at their home they would get me an ash tray
and allow me to smoke. As I saw the ashes fall inadvertently
on their clean rugs, as I saw the "dirtiness" of the habit
against the home they kept so neat, I resolved to stop. I
started by switching to a pipe. (A manly thing!) It was ironic
however, that when my birthday came and the daughter of the
household which I was then dating decided to give me a new
pipe as a gift, I had decided to quit smoking altogether. Why
did I quit? I knew it was bad for my health (I had actually
been a respiratory therapist), I was supported by loving
friends, I made a decision and, and this I sincerely believe,
God intervened with His help. Thank God that I quit over 35
years ago!

their eyes tear, their throat hurt, their nose cringe, and their
hair and clothes smell like smoke....) even if you yourself did
not smoke.
The_feelings_those_thoughts_generate: When I reflect upon

with all that's known about smoking that people are still doing
it. What an injustice to fellow workers who are working while
smokers take yet another break to smoke. How much is that costing?
Add up all that time you spend smoking and you could have a hell
of a workout!
The_feelings_those_thoughts_generate: The addictive
strength of the smoking habit must be overwhelming if it forces
people to act in such a manner. Where is the willpower of smokers
if they can't overcome what is such an incredibly costly,
unhealthy habit?
How_I_quit: Having been athletically active all my life, I
knew it wasn't good for me. It was just something to do to
socialize when I was young. I went out really late with some
friends one evening and just decided at the end of the evening to

being ex-smokers. Not only is it repulsive, but when you smoke you
don't only hurt yourself but EVERYONE around you. My big focus
with my writing has been on stricter tobacco laws, because the
government enforces laws which hurt no one but the person
committing the crime (such as seatbelt and helmet laws), but not
something that effects everyone? And to all the smokers - look how
much money you could be saving if you weren't smoking a pack a day
- say you spend $5 per pack, that's like 1800 dollar menu
cheeseburgers. Save the money for gasoline or something
worthwhile. Spend an evening with your kids, without increasing
their risk for earaches and sore throats and asthma.

the most
When_I_see_others_smoking_I_think: I think why would they
purposefully cut their life so short, there is so much to do and
so much to see. To see what you want to it takes a lifetime. It is
not the destination, but the journey that is important. Why would
you shorten such a wonderful thing.
The_feelings_those_thoughts_generate: sad, because I have
seen what tobacco can accomplish and what you can accomplish
without tobacco is nothing short of spectacular. If only everyone
could see that.

When_I_see_others_smoking_I_think: When I smoked I thought
I smoked because it satisfied an earge. I did not know what earge
was being satisfied till I quit, and I missed the smoke entering
my throat and lungs filling, filing- I missed this the most.
The_feelings_those_thoughts_generate: Now, when I think of
those thoght about wanting that "filling", I think that the earge
I was satisfying was a deep earge to be filled form the inside.
Now I have something that fills me more than anything ever coud-
Jesus Almighty- and I FEEL free from those thoughts when I smoked.
How_I_quit: I quit, after a year trying and returning. The
way I quite was I had moved and told myself I could start new. I
avoided all places where I could light up or be tempted to bum or
buy smokes. I was fortunate because all my new friends were
non-smokers so it was easier stay away from smoking. During my
final success to quite, the best secret to my success was this
advice- "when you want a cigarette, count to 15 and the earge will
leave".. so my basic tool was to wait fro the earges to pass. If
that did not work I would chew gum or sour patch kids.

When_I_see_others_smoking_I_think: I can't stand it,
especially if they are with children like in the car with windows
up. those children have a right to breath clean air don't they.
The_feelings_those_thoughts_generate: I am angered that
they just don't care. Where are those ads again for the absent
minded parents who contiunue to smoke around children . My
children ages 16 and 21 live in and have always a smoke free
enviroment. My dad says he never smoke as he wants to "Die of
natural causes".
